What's a credit?

A credit is how EngageCycle counts what you send. Your plan includes a number of credits for the plan year, and you can add more when you need them.

What uses a credit

A credit is used the first time a proposal, engagement letter, consent, or walkthrough reaches a client: emailed, shared as a link, signed in person, or from your website offer once the person confirms their email. A walkthrough uses one credit however many documents are in it. Drafts, previews, test sends, resending the same link, and a corrected version that replaces one you sent don't use a credit, unless the one it replaces was withdrawn and its credit given back. One withdrawn before the client opens it is given back.

A credit is used when something reaches a client, not when it's signed. A client who never signs still used one, and a client who signs twice (a proposal and then an engagement letter) used two.

What doesn't

  • Drafts, and everything you do before you send: building, previewing, and checking a campaign.
  • Test sends to yourself.
  • Sending the same link again, or copying it to share another way.
  • Reminders.
  • A corrected version that replaces one you sent. The exception: if you withdrew the one it replaces before the client opened it, that credit came back, so sending the corrected version uses one, the same as any send.
  • Your staff and your clients. You can add as many of either as you like.
  • A proposal, letter, or consent you withdraw before the client opens it. The credit comes back.
  • A request on an offer that holds requests for your review, until you send it. Declining it, or letting it expire, uses none. See Review requests before they're sent.

Where you see your credits

  • The chip in the top bar shows how many you have left, for example "Credits 212 left", "Overage 12 of 100", or "Out of credits". Click it for the details, and click What's a credit? for this explanation.
  • Billing shows what you've used this plan year, what's included, any extra packs, and what happens when you run out. See Billing and your plan.
  • Before you send, you're asked to confirm, with what the send will use and what you'll have left. Nothing uses a credit until you confirm. The confirmation has What's a credit? too.

When you run out

Depending on your plan, you either pay a set price for each extra credit (up to a cap you control) or buy packs of credits. Owners get a link to do that from the chip, the banner, and the confirmation; staff are told to ask an owner. If buying online isn't open for your business, contact EngageCycle. See Billing and your plan for the details. Unused included credits don't roll over to the next plan year, and packs last 12 months from purchase.

Good to know

  • A campaign checks credits for a whole batch before any of it sends, and waits if they don't cover it.
  • Offers on your website use a credit only after the person confirms their email.
  • Credits count by what reaches a client, so one client who gets a proposal and an engagement letter uses two.
